It was unplanned. It was unintentional. It was a great suprise.
Usually I take the kids to CCD, come home, go back to pick them up. Last week, at the last minute, Mark slid into the driveway and stated he wanted to come with me.
When we go together, it means one of two things are going to happen. Either, we go grocery shopping, or we hang out in Mt. Dora.
Well, it was the latter. Now, I am completely unprepared to be seen beyond the car window, but, if he wants to go out with me looking like this, eh, it’s 16 years of marriage…
This was the most fun we have had together in a very long time. I mean, impromptu date night, “It’s a Wonderful Life” kinda giddie fun! Date nights are rare, and this I was not expecting.
As we approach downtown Mt. Dora, the town is lit up- I mean completely LIT up for Christmas. It is the middle of January and this town is celebrating Christmas as though it’s happening tomorrow.
The lights were spectacular! We walked through the park, holding hands, freezing and listening to Christmas caroles. This town was ours, and the joy of Christmas enveloped our very being.
As we walked down 5th Street, we heard Ralphie talking. The theater built a TV where the ticket booth is supposed to be, and behind the red velvet ropes, there is Ralphie beating up the red headed kid. Our very own, private screening of “A Christmas Story”!
Can it get much better- oh yea! We continued our stroll and came upon the Christmas tree. The lights were dancing with the music. Red, green, blue, white. Red. Green and Blue. White and blue. Flicker, flicker, boom, boom! Can you stand it?!?!
Ahh, our time is up. We have to pick up the kids. As we were walking to the car, we talked about how nice it would be to bring the kids here and have them enjoy the decorations like we just did.
Naa, this is our secret!
